I have emailed Blackvue, waiting for their response. So I am feeling I am SOOL unless I spend the money on a new SD Card and this current one is a coaster.

But the card is currently on read only, so I can update the firmware via the MicroSD Card or the app. I looked on the firmware update, and it says the new firmware fixes this issue apparently on putting the SD card on a read only mode. It can read the files but can't delete them. And, of course, unlike BlackVue this wouldnt be a GPL violating product.

That may sound like a lot, but compare it to a BlackVue at £300 for just 2 channels, no 3G, only 1080p front + 720p rear (C920 means 1080p all around), so the closest you would get is £600 for a clumsier, dual set solution with lower resolution and fewer features.
